Disease Surveillance & Investigation
Florida Department of Health in Indian River County (DOH-Indian River) Environmental Epidemiology is responsible for conducting surveillance for and investigating cases of reportable diseases and conditions associated with food or waterborne sources, animals (zoonotic diseases), or environmental toxins. Investigations are conducted to prevent further spread of illness by identification and elimination of the sources of these diseases and conditions.
In addition, Environmental Health Epidemiology investigates clusters of illness in the community in coordination with partner agencies to identify and remove the source of transmission.
Environmental Health Epidemiology analyzes surveillance data to identify disease trends in the community and disseminates this information to partners in the community.
