Many diseases can easily be prevented by proper hand hygiene, which is especially important before preparing or eating foods. Many foods, if not properly handled and stored, can be a source of germs that can make you sick. The Florida Department of Health (DOH) Food Safety and Sanitation webpage has helpful information available on food safety, including codes and statutes, publications and inspection information.
Actions that investigators take to determine and eliminate sources of these diseases include taking reports of foodborne illness, interviewing ill people, conducting facility inspections, providing education and enforcing laws and ordinances. Visit the DOH Report a Problem with Food in Florida webpage for information on filing a complaint, or you can complete an Online Food and Waterborne Illness Complaint Form.
