School health services are provided by local school districts in collaboration with the Department of Health in Indian River. School Health services are addressed in section 381.0056 of the Florida Statutes.

What are School Health Services?

  • Nursing Assessments
  • Health counseling, referrals for suspected or confirmed health problems
  • Development of individualized student health care plans and emergency plans for students with chronic or handicapping conditions
  • Child specific training for unlicensed assistive personnel caring for students with chronic or handicapping conditions
  • Assistance with mandated student health screenings – Vision, Hearing, Scoliosis and Growth and Development
  • Consultation for parents, principals, teachers, students and health staff on health issues
  • Health education using school district approved curriculum
  • Participation on the local School Health Advisory Committee
  • Facilitate the development of a two-year School Health Plan in collaboration with the local school district and the School Health Advisory Committee
