Our Youth Standing to Make a Difference

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FL– Children of all ages, along with their families, are invited to attend “Youth Taking Charge” on Saturday, April 2, 2016, from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Gifford Youth Achievement Center, 4875 43rd Avenue, Vero Beach.  The event is sponsored by Gifford Youth Achievement Center and Florida Department of Health in Indian River County. 

This free event will provide attendees with empowering educational opportunities to help them make positive choices in their lives. “By giving our children the tools to succeed in life, choosing the right path becomes easier”, said John May, HIV Outreach Coordinator for Florida Department of Health in Indian River County.

“Ride Along 2” actor Moses Cantu will be the guest speaker. Sponsors are providing free food and giveaways for participants.  Additionally, those who stay until 2:00pm will be eligible for a $50 gift drawing. Free HIV and STD testing will also be provided. After the event, children can swim at the Gifford Aquatic Center for $1.00.

  • What Happens When You Go to Jail
  • Alcohol Literacy Challenge
  • Teen Dating Violence
  • Social Media and Safety
  • How to Respond When Approached by Law Enforcement
  • Substance Abuse and Sexual Abuse
  • Teen Pregnancy
  • Department of Juvenile Justice

May encourages youth and their parents to “Come on out to this worthwhile event, have fun with us and help our youth stand to make a difference”.
