What are School Health Services?
School Health Services are addressed in section 381.0056 of the Florida statutes.  Information found in this section outline the services that are provided by local school districts in collaboration with the Department of Health in each county.  Each county varies in how school health services are delivered.  Core services in Indian River County include the following:

  • Health counseling, referrals for suspected or confirmed health problems
  • Development of individualized student health care plans and emergency plans for students with chronic or handicapping conditions
  • Child specific training for unlicensed assistive personnel caring for students with chronic or handicapping conditions
  • Assistance with mandated student health screenings – Vision, Hearing, Scoliosis and Growth and Development
  • Consultation for parents, principals, teachers, students and health staff on health issues
  • Health education using school district approved curriculum
  • Facilitation of tobacco prevention and education programs in collaboration with community partners – Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT)
  • Facilitation of a dental health program in collaboration with community partners through our dental clinic
  • Participation on the local School Health Advisory Committee
