Pollutant Interceptors and Grease Traps

Environmental Health

Florida Department of Health in Indian River County (DOH-Indian River) regulates the installation and operation of pollutant interceptors and grease traps as an Indian River County program through the Board of County Commissioners. As a result of inadequate maintenance, grease and oil deposits in plumbing lines cause plumbing backups and sanitary nuisances. Inordinate amounts of grease and pollutants in sewage treatment plants inhibit proper treatment of sewage as does using solvents as a method of grease control.

Facilities served by public sanitary sewer that produce grease or other pollutants may be required to install an interceptor or grease trap and have it monitored.
