Celebrating the Women and Girls Summit

August 23, 2017

Celebrating the Women and Girls Summit

The Florida Department of Health in Indian River County is sponsoring the Women and Girls Summit on Saturday, August 26th from 9:00AM to 2:00PM at the Vero Beach Highlands Club House located at 625 Highland Drive SW in Vero Beach. Women and girls are invited to enjoy a day of pampering.

This summit is designed to provide women and teen girls of Indian River County with health and wellness knowledge to positively affect their levels of wellness that empowers them to address health concerns in their lives. Separate sessions geared to women 18 and older will be held, and includes topics related to domestic violence, nutrition, breast and reproductive health, parenting and diabetes. Blood screenings will begin at 8:00AM. The teen session for girls ages 13-17 will address bullying and gangs, teen pregnancy prevention, building self-esteem, and HIV/AIDS prevention.

“We encourage women and adolescent girls to take advantage of this great educational opportunity. By empowering themselves with this knowledge, they can learn how to develop steps for success and live healthier lives”, said John May, Florida Department of Health in Indian River County HIV Outreach Coordinator.

The day of pampering will include beauty advice, massages, and nail and hair care. Lunch will be provided for the attendees. For more information, contact John May, HIV Outreach Coordinator at 772-473-5268.
